Experienced Phased Array Inspection Specialists

At Bravura Inspection, we provide advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) services, designed to meet the critical inspection needs of sectors including aerospace, oil and gas, energy, and high-precision manufacturing. Phased Array is a highly sophisticated form of ultrasonic testing that allows for the rapid and accurate inspection of complex geometries and welded joints.

Using state-of-the-art multi-element probes and advanced imaging software, our PCN-certified technicians deliver clear, real-time visualisations of subsurface flaws, thickness variations, and weld quality. Whether you’re carrying out new fabrications, in-service inspections, or routine maintenance, Bravura Inspection ensures dependable, non-destructive testing solutions that support asset integrity, operational safety, and regulatory compliance.

What is Phased Array Inspection?

Phased Array Inspection is an advanced ultrasonic testing method that uses multiple sound beams to detect, size, and characterise defects in materials. This technique provides detailed, three-dimensional data, making it a preferred choice for inspecting complex structures such as welds, pipelines, and pressure vessels.

How Does Phased Array Inspection Work?

Phased Array Inspection uses an array of ultrasonic transducers to generate multiple sound beams. These beams can be electronically steered, focused, and swept through the material being inspected. The reflected signals are captured and processed to produce a detailed image of the internal structure, allowing for accurate detection and evaluation of flaws.

Benefits of Phased Array Inspection

High Precision

Phased Array Inspection delivers detailed, high-resolution imagery that allows for the precise detection and characterisation of internal defects, including planar flaws, cracks, and porosity. It supports accurate sizing and positioning of flaws, which is crucial for assessing severity and making informed decisions on repairs or continued operation.

Versatility

One of the key advantages of PAUT is its wide applicability across different materials, thicknesses, and configurations. It is particularly effective for inspecting welds, complex structural components, corrosion mapping, and detecting defects in components where conventional ultrasonic testing may be limited.

Efficiency

Phased Array enables rapid scanning of large surface areas without sacrificing accuracy or detail. Multiple inspection angles and depths can be assessed in a single pass, reducing inspection times and increasing overall efficiency in demanding environments.

Non-Destructive

As with all non-destructive testing methods, Phased Array Inspection preserves the component’s usability, avoiding damage or the need for surface alteration. This makes it ideal for critical or high-value assets where maintaining original integrity is essential.
