Experienced SLOFEC Specialists

At Bravura Inspection, we specialise in SLOFEC (Saturated Low-Frequency Eddy Current) inspection services, an advanced non-destructive testing method that offers improved flaw detection capabilities by combining principles of magnetic flux leakage and eddy current techniques. This hybrid approach allows for the highly sensitive detection of surface and sub-surface corrosion, pitting, and material loss, particularly in ferromagnetic materials such as carbon steel.

Our PCN Level 2 certified technicians utilise state-of-the-art SLOFEC equipment to deliver consistent, high-resolution inspections across a range of sectors including oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation, and industrial storage. Whether you’re managing offshore pipelines or above-ground storage tanks, Bravura Inspection provides detailed and dependable NDT solutions to protect your assets and keep operations running safely and efficiently.

What is SLOFEC?

SLOFEC is a hybrid inspection method that uses a combination of magnetic flux leakage and low-frequency eddy currents to detect and size surface and subsurface defects in ferromagnetic materials. This innovative technique is particularly effective for inspecting pipelines, storage tanks, and other critical infrastructure.

How Does SLOFEC Work?

SLOFEC involves saturating the test material with a strong magnetic field. Low-frequency eddy currents are then induced into the material, and sensors detect disruptions caused by defects. These signals are processed to provide detailed information about the size, location, and type of defects present.

Benefits of SLOFEC

High Sensitivity

SLOFEC delivers exceptional sensitivity in detecting small-scale and hidden defects, such as localised corrosion, cracking, and wall loss. Its capability to scan through coatings and surface films makes it especially valuable in environments where visual access is restricted or surface preparation is impractical.

Rapid Inspection

The technique allows for the quick scanning of extensive areas, making it a time-efficient solution for inspecting large infrastructures like oil storage tanks, marine vessels, and long pipeline runs. This speed helps minimise downtime while ensuring thorough asset coverage.

Accurate Sizing

SLOFEC not only detects flaws but also provides accurate, quantifiable data on the depth and surface area of detected defects. This helps engineers and asset managers prioritise repairs, plan preventive maintenance, and comply with regulatory standards more effectively.

Non-Destructive

As a non-invasive method, SLOFEC preserves the structural integrity of components throughout the inspection process. There is no need to remove coatings or perform intrusive work, making it ideal for sensitive or high-value assets where material integrity must remain intact.
